This array of services makes it possible to partake in the production of local television programs in one of two ways: Individuals acting on their own behalf, or as representatives of organizations, municipal bodies and businesses may produce community cable programming through their own efforts as community video photographers, or by sponsoring the creative production efforts of others under the auspices of Medford Community Cablevision.

Why tv 3 Medford Exists
In 1982 Congress passed the first Cable Television Act. That act required any cable company that is awarded a franchise in a given city or town to set aside certain channels for public, educational, and governmental access. Comcast Cable (formerly AT&T Broadband, Media One and Time Warner Cable) is Medford’s current cable service provider. By contract they provide access on three separate channels: TV 3 (a non-profit operation), Channel 15 (educational access) and Channel 16 (governmental or municipal access.) Mayor McGlynn is the chief negotiator for the cities cable contract.
Public Access is an extension of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Cable Act of 1982 mandated that a certain amount of "cable space" be made available to persons who would not ordinarily have access to public airwaves. The whole purpose of access is to give the broadest spectrum of people an opportunity to communicate their ideas with each other, without the worry of government censorship. In this respect, TV3 is truly the people’s forum.
If you don’t have a show lined up, but are interested in producing one, give us a call and we’ll tell you all about the next series of video production workshops that are available. You will get hands on training that will take you from starting on your own video project to your own television program. If you would like to get into video, but are not sure what it takes to get a show on the air or perhaps you would like to be involved in a production behind the scenes, instead of in front of the camera. TV3 can accommodate your interests. Everyone at TV3 is a volunteer producing quality local programming. If you are interested, call us at 781-395-5993
